Amtrak Capital Corridor

The Amtrak Capital Corridor Connecting the two megaregions of San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento (CA Capital). This is a really fast option than flight or driving.

About

This is a very busy and profitable route outside the US Northeast where Amtrak makes most of it's profits. It served more than 1 Million in 2018 and got 33,000,000$ in Profits. (Most goes away in expenses).

The Capitol Corridor is used by commuters between the Sacramento area and the Bay Area as an alternative to driving on congested Interstate 80. Monthly passes and discounted trip tickets are available.

Many politicians, lobbyists, and aides live in the Bay Area and commute to their jobs in Sacramento, including those connecting to the train via Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach from San Francisco, while workers in the Oakland, San Francisco, and Silicon Valley employment centers take the Capitol Corridor trains from their less expensive homes in Solano County and the Sacramento metropolitan area.

History

This service started on 12 December, 1991. The service was in very poor condition as Amtrak was very poor along with no support from governments.

It was historically operated by the Central Pacific Railroad & was heavily used until the Interstate highway system project built the Interstate 80 which moved people from Trains to Cars. Airlines even started to operate flights from Sacramento to San Francisco.

Present

The route has gained popularity over the years and as all others, fell down in 2020. It remains the most used route outside the US Northeast. The CalTrans has more power over the route than Amtrak. It is over 290KM but does it in under 3 Hours.
