History

In the Early Days, the train & tram were the only service in Tokyo until the Great Kantō earthquake had struck badly on Tokyo in 1923. This destroyed the entire tram system. For then some emergency buses were serviced on the route. The buses gained so much popularity that 8 bus companies emerged rivaling against each other.

Some train companies also started their own bus services. Until 1945, only 12 buses  were in operation. Japan's allie the US supplied Japan with 400 Buses. The first thing was to make some of the buses to tourism, that was to Hato Bus. Later all other tram systems were substituted by the very popular bus.
