Los Angeles Water Problem

The Los Angeles water issue is a mega drought faced not only in this region but in the entire Southwestern United States. The issue has been running for many decades & till now, no big solution has been implemented.

The Mega-Drought Regions

History

Before, the area was sparsely populated and had poor water supply systems. Then after World War 2, many people came to Los Angeles and San Diego They exploded in population. So did the San Joaquin's valley Cities Basically Southern California which was covered by the mountains.

The super fast growth bought high demand that was not possible to do with that tech of the time. So the state government started the State water project. Soon the demand was fulfilled and with the demand so did the number of aqueducts. Today there are three aqueducts. The largest being the Northern Aqueduct getting water all the way from Sacramento metro area.

1)The Bay Area Water Supply

This is the most extreme supply. The Water comes from the multiple rivers forming complex fresh waterbodies near Sacramento & the Bay Area. The water comes to the LA Aqueduct even before it reaches the ocean. More than 70% of water from that river goes into the aqueduct. More than 5 Billion Liters of fresh drinking water is collected.

The Entire Route of the Aqueduct

The Bay Area Aqueduct is more than the distance of the height of England

2)The Colorado River Water Supply

This was the latest one as the Bay Area supply was being overloaded so to be safe, they used this one. Because of this almost all water goes to the aqueduct. No water is left that can go to the ocean.

The Parker Dam is the start of the Colorado River Aqueduct. Millions of liters of water is harvested per second. The amount of water extracted is taking a toll on the river as the water is simply finishing up

The white rock shows how much water used to be there

3)The Inyo Valley Water Supply

This was the first system that was still not able to fill demand so they built another right next to it when the resources started to dry up. Then they built the other 2.
